If you don’t qualify for a visa, but want to immigrate to the United States or Canada, we have some options for you.
Qualifying for a Visa
Sometimes, you will take an assessment or be assessed by an immigration professional either in person or over the phone. There comes a time when there isn’t an available visa for you at the moment. Below, we tell you what you can do when you are in this situation.
Taking Steps to Improve Your Visa Qualification
An immigration professional will provide you with what is called an immigration plan. This is essentially a step-by-step guide, as to what steps you can take to put yourself in a better position to ultimately qualify for a visa. Keep in mind that sometimes this will involve upgrading your education, improving your English, and some other things as well.
In most cases, if an applicant or a prospective applicant wants to come, they have to be motivated and they have to take their necessary steps to get there. And so, it will cause some delay and a bit of patience. But at the end of the day, we’ve seen many cases where an individual may not qualify right away, but ultimately will succeed in coming to Canada or
the United States. So, don’t lose hope.
What You May Need to Improve on for a Visa to Canada or the US
Work Experience – Employers want to know where you have worked, when you worked there, what your job title was, and what your responsibilities were. In some cases, you will need to receive a job offer first in order to qualify for a visa.
Education – You will want to make sure you list all degrees you have earned when you graduated, and from what college, institution, or university. Depending on which visa you will be applying for, you may need more education in certain areas in order to qualify.
Language – For certain applications such as US Citizenship, you will need to demonstrate English proficiency in order to immigrate. In most places in Canada, proficiency in both English and French speakers are accepted.
Have You Applied for a Visa and Received a Visa Refusal Letter?
If you are in a situation where your case has received a refusal letter, you will not be able to enter the United States or Canada. However, this does not mean that you have to give up on immigration to either country. You will want to find the reason(s) you were denied the visa and learn what you can do to fix it before you re-apply. Visit our page on US refusal letters or Canadian refusal letters to learn more.
Know Your Options
US Visa Waiver
If you attempt to come to the US knowing you are inadmissible and have not qualified for a visa, you may get into serious trouble. If you have a criminal record or have a history of violating immigration laws and would like to enter the United States, you may want to look into obtaining a waiver of inadmissibility.
Canada Visa Pardon
If you are deemed inadmissible to Canada due to criminal history or violation of immigration laws, you may be able to apply to receive a pardon for those crimes.
