Moving to Canada can mean you’re opening your world to exciting new opportunities and challenges, but it can also be daunting if you don’t know how to get around.
That’s why Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada has provided a free online interactive map to help you find immigrant services in your area.
Find Free Local Services
Immigrants moving to Canada can take advantage of a number of free services once they get there, including:
- Language classes and assessments
- Help and guidance for finding employment
- Help and advice finding a place to live
- Assistance filling out forms and applications
- Information about the various community services available, including mentoring
How It Works
You can find the interactive map provided by IRCC right here. When you reach the page, you will see an option to select your chosen province or territory from the drop-down menu.
Just as an example, let’s take a look at the interactive map information page for Alberta.
You can easily use this map to zoom in on various locations, but if you’re looking for specific services, you can un-tick the ‘Show All’ box on the map legend and only select what you need. For instance, by ticking the box to only search for ‘Language Assessments’, you’ll see there are seven possible locations you can visit for this type of service.
Getting Specific
Let’s take a closer look at the map legend itself, and the types of services you can find. What’s great about this map is that it’s very specific, and should help you get exactly the help you need:
- Language assessment
- Language training (general)
- Job-specific language training
- Help to find a job
- Help with daily life
- Find or become a mentor to a newcomer
- Services for Refugees
- Services for Francophone newcomers
- Services for Women
- Services for Seniors
- Services for Youth
So, as you can see, it’s never been easier to find exactly the right service you’re looking for.
