What are Provincial Nominee Programs?
Many people who are looking to immigrate to Canada as permanent residents need look no further than Provincial Nominee Programs, or PNPs. These programs are offered by the majority of Canadian provinces and territories, and these programs allow the different provinces or territories to nominate certain immigrants to live and work in their province or territory.
Each Provincial Nominee Program is different, but the requirements for a Provincial Nominee Program are generally the same.
What is required to immigrate under a Provincial Nominee Program?
For the majority of Provincial Nominee Programs, applicants must have certain types of work skills, work experience, a certain education level and the required language proficiency for their field. They may also be required to have ties in the province or territory, such as family living there, work experience there or having visited there.
For example, the Alberta Provincial Nominee program has several different categories, including am Employer Drive Stream, and International Graduate Category, a Semi-Skilled Worker Category, Family Stream and a Self-Employed Farmer Stream, providing plenty of different opportunities to find a stream that best suits you.
The Manitoba immigration stream, which is a significant contributor to the high level of immigrants settling in Manitoba last year, includes a Business Immigration Stream, a Young Farmer Nominee Program, a Family Support Stream, an International Student Strategic Initiative and an Employer Direct Stream.
The Ontario Provincial Nominee Program also has several different streams such as the Foreign Worker Stream, an Investor stream and an International Student Stream, with heavy requirements placed on the employers themselves depending on what geographical area in Ontario they are operating in.
