The SDS was a streamlined process for eligible students from certain countries to apply for a study permit in Canada. It offered faster processing times and specific requirements. The IRCC closed the Student Direct Stream on November 8, 2024.
The Student Direct Stream was introduced in 2018 to streamline the study permit application process for international students from 14 countries, including India, China, Pakistan, and the Philippines.
Going forward, all study permit applications will be submitted using the standard application process. Students who planned to apply under the SDS should now plan and prepare for longer processing times.
Why Was the Student Direct Stream Closed?
IRCC decided to close the Student Direct Stream to ensure fair and equitable processing for all study permit applicants.
