Quebec Delays its Skilled Worker Program
The Quebec Skilled Worker Program has been pushed back to mid-summer. Along with the unprecedented delays, Immigration Quebec has also announced that they will be accepting a total of 6,300 visas this year – not much change from last year’s quota.
What This Means for You
Although you won’t be able to apply for the Quebec Skilled Worker Program until later in the year, it also gives you plenty of time to ensure your application is properly prepared and meets all visa office standards. The good news is that the selection criteria has already been published, so you should be able to get a good idea of how eligible you are for the program.
First, let’s look at just some of the reasons why so many people are excited about the Quebec Skilled Worker Program:
- A job offer is NOT essential
- Applications will be accepted from anywhere in the world (even if you’re already working overseas)
- There’s no need to demonstrate settlement funds
- If accepted, you will be granted Canadian Permanent residency (the equivalent of a Green Card)
In order to successfully submit your initial application for the Quebec Skilled Worker Program, you will need to provide the following documentation:
- Documents proving your identification (such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate, deed poll (if necessary) etc.
- Travel documentation (Including copies of your valid passport copies and residence visas if applicable)
- Education documents (qualifications and transcripts)
- Proof of work experience/previous employment depending on your qualifications (best to include as much as possible)
All of the above should be included in your initial application in order to secure a spot in the current quota, although other documents will also be required later down the line, including medical reports, language tests and police clearance certificates.
Why Get Your Application in Early?
Many people will be jumping at what is potentially their last chance to submit their application for a Canadian immigration program under a first-come, first-served basis. The main concern is getting your application submitted as soon as possible, as you will not have to compete with other applicants for a visa using any kind of points system (like Express Entry) yet.
