The Crime of the Harbor Hooker
Alix Tichelman was incarcerated in a California jail on manslaughter and heroin charges after authorities say that she injected a Google executive with heroin on his yacht and fled as he overdosed and died four years ago. Federal officials say she is now allegedly facing possible deportation. Alix was born in Canada but immigrated to America with her family when she was young.
She first made headlines as the “Harbor Hooker” in 2013 when she was arrested by police after her client, Forrest Hayes, a former Google executive, was found dead on his 50-foot yacht. Alix worked in the United States as an escort for wealthy men such as the Google executive. She pleaded guilty in 2015 to the crime of involuntary manslaughter, multiple drug and prostitution charges and destroying evidence.
Facing Deportation Back to Canada
Jail records have shown that she was recently released, but according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials (ICE), she is now in federal custody and facing deportation. Tichelman was sentenced to five years in prison but only served about half her sentence for good behavior.
“Ms. Tichelman was taken into custody by deportation officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) March 29. Department of Homeland Security databases indicates Ms. Tichelman has multiple prior criminal convictions, including convictions for involuntary manslaughter and a felony drug charge. She will remain in DHS/ICE custody pending removal proceedings,” the agency said in a statement.
Alix Tichelman Holds Dual Citizenship with US and Canada
According to the Santa Cruz Sentinel, citing court records, it allegedly shows that Alix Tichelman holds dual citizenship in the United States and Canada. The Santa Cruz Sheriff Sgt. Chris Clark said ICE agents appeared at the Northern California jail to detain Tichelman when she was released. Showing up at the prison as she was released indicated the plan for deporting Alix Tichelman was previously thought through and planned in advance. The Sheriff officials declined to honor the ICE request to hold Tichelman for two days after her release date.
The Sheriff said it had been the fifth time that immigration officers have appeared at the Santa Cruz County jail this year to detain an inmate being released at that moment.
Although this is the fifth time in one prison, Alix Tichelman’s case caught attention around the world. She was once featured on the show “48 Hours” which investigated her case of killing the Google executive. The episode is called “Kiss of Death and the Google Exec.” Beyond just the media uproar of the crime, there’s another media uproar about being detained with dual citizenship. Although Tichelman was born in Canada, she spent most of her time in America.
Her parents were very wealthy business owners in Northern California. Tichelman’s father is the CEO of a California technology business. It has been known that she spent most of her childhood in Georgia. Alix then moved in with her longtime boyfriend before he died of a heroin overdose, the same way the Google executive was killed.
It has been unconfirmed by ICE that Tichelman does have a dual citizenship while being detained.
