Canada Attracting More US Workers

Historically, more Canadians have flocked to the United States for jobs. But according to Citizenship and Immigration Canada, in 2010 there was a record high of Americans applying for temporary work visas.

According to this article in the Globe and Mail, the current 14 million Americans who are unemployed would equal about 40 per cent of the population of Canada – while many employers in Canada are complaining that they do not have enough workers.

In addition, more opportunities in Canada have made Canada a haven for United States businesses. One business founder was quoted in the article as saying, “it looks like we will become a Canadian company – we have access to a bunch more opportunities. And it’s really nice here and we’ve had a great experience thus far,” he said, after mentioning that a program in Vancouver helped him start his business with better ideas and more money.
