Randy Quaid is a famous American actor known for his more goofy characters like Cousin Eddie from the National Lampoon’s Vacation series, and for more serious roles like his supporting role in the film Brokeback Mountain. He has also been nominated for an Academy Award.
Randy Quaid Denied Permanent Residence In Canada
The last we heard from Randy Quaid (brother of Dennis Quaid), he had claimed refugee status in Canada (it is almost unheard of for an American citizen to claim refugee status in Canada) because he was convinced that a team of professional celebrity killers known as the “Star Whackers” were after him.
Randy Quaid Dropped Refugee Claim in Hopes of Sponsorship Application
But his wife Evi Quaid’s father is a Canadian citizen, prompting her to become a Canadian citizen and apply to sponsor him to Canada. Quaid said he had dropped his refugee claim in place of a sponsorship application in August 2012.
Permanent Residency Denied for Randy Quaid
Now, according to UPI.com, his application for permanent residency has been denied, and the government of Canada will not let him reinstate his dropped refugee claim. Reasons why the spousal sponsorship application was denied have not been made public, but Randy Quaid has appealed the decision in Federal Court.
In their application for judicial review, the couple said, “Organized crime and its victims are serious issues and can not be tossed off until the claim is heard. The refugee claims should remain intact as should Evi and Randy Quaid’s heads remain attached to their necks and it is their firm belief that their lives are at stake and being racketeered on.”
Another issue facing the couple is that they are both facing $500,000 warrants in the United States and are facing felony charges in the United States for burglary and vandalism.
