Use the checker above, or look through the full list. Your US job must match one of the listed professions, and you need the education or licence shown for it. Your job duties matter more than your exact job title.
For some professions, yes. Computer systems analysts, graphic designers, hotel managers, industrial and interior designers, technical writers and medical laboratory technologists can qualify with a post-secondary diploma or certificate plus 3 years of experience. Management consultants can qualify with 5 years of experience.
Often, yes, usually as a Computer Systems Analyst or, with an engineering degree, as an Engineer. Roles described mainly as programming or coding are often questioned at the border, so the job offer letter needs to describe the analysis and design work clearly.
That’s common. Border officers look at your actual duties, your education and your job offer letter, not just the title. A well-written offer letter that matches a TN profession makes a big difference.
No. The TN is for working for a US employer. Canadians who want to run their own US business usually use the E-2 investor visa instead.
Canadian and Mexican citizens. Canadian permanent residents who aren’t citizens can’t use the TN, but may have other options.
Many Canadians whose job isn’t on the TN list move to the US another way, such as an L-1 transfer, an E-2 business visa or a family green card. VisaScore checks all of them in about 3 minutes.
