Who is the B2 Visa For?

The B2 Visa is for citizens of a foreign country who wish to enter the U.S. temporarily for the purposes of tourism, pleasure, medical treatment, or visiting.

What Does the B2 Visa Provide?

The B2 Visa allows citizens of foreign countries to enter the U.S. as visitors for a specified length of time for social or recreational purposes or for medical treatment.

Who is Eligible for the B2 Visa?

According to the U.S. Department of State, the following constitute eligible reasons for visiting the U.S. under a B2 Visa:

  • Tourism
  • Vacation (holiday)
  • Visit with friends or relatives
  • Medical treatment
  • Participation in social events hosted by fraternal, social, or service organizations
  • Participation by amateurs in musical, sports, or similar events or contests, if not being paid for participating
  • Enrollment in a short recreational course of study, not for credit toward a degree (for example, a two-day cooking class while on vacation)

This B2 visa is not for applicants who wish to visit the U.S. for business purposes. The U.S. Department of State adds that applicants for visitor visas must be able to prove that they are not coming to the U.S. in order to immigrate, but rather to enter the country temporarily for a purpose applicable to the particular visa they are applying for. Therefore, in order to show that they are eligible for a B2 visa, they must also be able to show that they are entering the country temporarily for a specific time period, have funds to cover expenses while in the U.S., and have a residence and other “binding ties” outside the U.S. that will ensure that they depart from the country when they are supposed to.

The B2 Visa Application Process

Applying for a B2 Visa involves multiple steps. An applicant begins the process by filling out the required form online and uploading a photo matching the application specifications.

Then, if the applicant is between 14 and 79 years of age, or the consular officer deems it necessary, the applicant must schedule an interview, generally with a U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their country of residence. The applicant will also be required to pay fees associated with the application, and several supporting documents need to be brought to the interview. The application will be reviewed and either accepted or denied.

Customer Reviews

Applying for PR can be a daunting task. I remember going on various websites during my research period and being so overwhelmed with the number of forms, and directions on how, when, where to send them. It was a great comfort and relief to me knowing that I could rely on someone else, an expert, like Lauren to help me. Lauren worked on my PR application and it has been excellent experience. She saved me a lot of time and stress, she respond quickly to whatever questions and concerns I have. I can truly recommend her and the team @Niren. Thank you

Having had a bad experience with a different immigration consultant in Toronto, we ended up working with Lauren Shannan and her team at Niren and Associates on our PR application, and couldn't be more satisfied. Lauren was extremely patient, reassuring and knowledgeable. She was very prompt with responding to all of our questions with clear answers and recommendations. She also followed up with the immigration authorities as needed. Lauren and team were a pleasure to work with, and we would recommend their services.
