Stories from the Border

On Wednesday, August 2nd, the US President Trump announced to legislation that he plans on cutting legal immigration into the United States in half. He plans on doing this by implementing a very strict merit-system that will judge and rate immigrants to determine their eligibility. Trump has argued throughout his presidential campaign that America has taken way too many low-skilled immigrants and its time for a change. On August 2nd, President Trump invited two Republican senators to the White House to have their support behind the proposed bill that would rate immigrants based on education, language ability and job skills that would benefit America. The current immigration policy bases their acceptance for legal immigration off if the immigrant has family ties in America. The new bill that President Trump will propose, sponsored by two Republican senators, will allow immediate relatives into America with the immigrant granted. The immigrant authorized to enter can bring their spouse and minor children to America, but the bill eliminates other family members such as siblings, parents, and adult children.

Merit System Immigration

President Trump has always said that cutting immigration will end up boosting American wages but how true is this statement? As the story above explained, Trump is supporting a bill to cut legal immigration in half. Some of his reasoning for cutting legal immigration is to boost American wages and offer more jobs for Americans. On the contrary, immigration has had an incredibly positive effect on the economy. Immigrants spend money on goods and services, start businesses, pay taxes and invent things. Many studies have shown that immigration has had little to no effect on American wages. The only group that is affected by immigrants are American high-school drop outs. They are the only group affected by immigrants because they are fighting for the low-skilled or low-paid jobs that many immigrants are also looking for. America is the melting pot for immigrants and the country has highly benefited from the work of immigrants.

Visa place helped me with my daughter’s sponsorship 3 years ago. Last week I contacted them for some clarification on a different matter. It was about an issue which technically was a problem of CIC’s software glitch and had nothing to do with Visa Place.
Yet Reena Sandu was assigned for my case. she helped me with enthusiasm and showed no hesitation despite me being an ex-client from 3 years ago.
I was very happy that even after 3 years of finishing business, Visa Place were respectful of their clients. Special thanks again to Reena for her enthusiasm and support.
