Government May Halt Skilled Worker And Immigrant Investor Programs

Government expected to announce possible pause on Skilled Worker applications today

The Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Immigrant Investor Program were scheduled to start taking new applications on July 1st of this year even though both programs are in the middle of being revamped.

Today, the government is expected to announce changes to the program to the tune of freezing applications, but nothing is confirmed.

In April, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced that he would be putting forth legislation that would allow him the ability to change or cancel programs like the Skilled Worker and Immigrant Investor Programs.

The government of Canada has been working on solutions to the massive immigration application backlog, one option of which included legislating away (effectively deleting) all of the waiting applications. This legislating away of the immigration applications is contained in the new budget bill, which will take effect within days.

As per the bill, the 280,000 Federal Skilled Worker visa applications that were submitted before February of 2009 would be cancelled and about $130 million in application fees refunded. This would leave a backlog of about 110,000 applications.

Great law firm with great staff. My lawyer Rania did a great job for my Canadian work permit and my daughters study permit. You are great in your work. And my Para Legal officer Alicea, you are just amazing. They did not rest until my job was promptly and properly done. Always there to answer my calls, reply my emails promptly. She tried her best and the results were amazing. I recommend visa place if you need the best immigration job. Many thanks to Rania and Alicea.

I am grateful for the legal services that I got from Sanaa and Alicea of Visa Place. I was impressed by their client centered approach. Their professionalism involved their hearts and heads to work on my case. I cannot compare the time they spent on it with the money I paid. All they wanted was a fine final document. I also liked their prompt communication. They are really passionate about what they do.
