This Missed Step May Be Causing You To Lose Out On Temporary Resident Permits (TRP)

Temporary Resident Permits (TRP

If for any reason you have been deemed inadmissible to Canada, Temporary Resident Permits (TRP) will grant you the ability to enter and stay in Canada for a specified amount of time. A TRP is only to be used in exceptional circumstances, and cannot be used for any permanent residency processes.

Here are some reasons why you may require a TRP (via Canadian Immigrant): “If an individual is inadmissible to Canada, due to criminal, security or medical reasons, but requires entry to Canada, they may be eligible for a Temporary Resident Permit Canada (TRP).”

PLEASE NOTE: A TRP is not to be confused with a TRV (Temporary Resident Visa), otherwise known as a Canadian Visitor Visa.

Criminal Inadmissibility

There are various different circumstances which can lead to criminal inadmissibility. The most common cause of criminal inadmissibility is if it has been less than five years since you have been convicted  of an offence, or those five years have elapsed and you have not yet been deemed rehabilitated.

Your criminal inadmissibility can be removed in two ways:

Thoroughly Check Your TRP Application

Your TRP application will be reviewed by the Case Processing Centre-Vegereville. If your application is not signed or the fee is missing, your application will be returned.

WARNING: If any other information is missing, your application could be returned or even refused.

Your Obligations as a Permit Holder

If Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) permits your entry despite your inadmissibility and suspends all enforcement action for the duration of time outline on your TRP, your time in Canada will be subject to the following conditions:

According to CIC’s online guide: “A TRP is valid for a specified period of time. Printed or written on your TRP will be either a “Date of Issue” and “Expiry Date” or a “Permit in force from” and a “Permit in force until” date.”

If you remain in Canada beyond the validity of your TRP, you will be breaking the law

We highly recommend that you demonstrate extra diligence when checking the expiry date of your TRP, otherwise you may not be allowed to enter the country again and will lose out on gaining any further Temporary Resident Permits (TRP).

Resolve Your Inadmissibility

As we mentioned above, it is also paramount that you take the correct steps towards resolving your inadmissibility. According to Canadian Immigrant:

“It is important to note that individuals who are eligible for criminal rehabilitation but who have not yet applied and require entry to Canada, should not only apply for a TRP but for Criminal Rehabilitation as well.

Criminal Rehabilitation is a permanent solution to criminal inadmissibility, while a TRP is only a temporary bridge for inadmissibility.”

Second time working with Visaplace, and was successful again with a visa application for parents (2 out of 2). Worked with Felicita and Mansi, strong guidance, very detailed approach to putting together a very thorough and comprehensive application. Good feedback and support throughout the full process. Highly recommend Visaplace!
