Starting August 19, USCIS will begin accepting the new Form I-131F, an electronic application for Parole in Place for certain noncitizen spouses and stepchildren of U.S. citizens.
Who Is Eligible for Parole in Place?
To be eligible for parole in place, you must meet specific criteria including:
- Having a qualifying family relationship with a U.S. citizen (such as a spouse, parent, or minor child)
- Being present in the United States without lawful status
- Having a pending green card application
How to Apply for United States Parole in Place
The application for parole in place involves several steps:
- Gather Required Documents: Prepare all necessary documentation, including proof of your relationship to the U.S.citizen, evidence of your continuous presence in the United States, and documents related to your pending green card application.
- File Form I-131F: Submit Form I-131F, Application for Family Unity Parole, to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
- Provide Biometrics: Attend a scheduled appointment to submit fingerprints and photographs (biometrics) for background checks.
- Await USCIS Decision: USCIS will review your application and notify you of their decision.
What Happens After You File?
After submitting your application for parole in place, you can expect to:
- Receive a receipt notice from USCIS acknowledging your application.
- Be scheduled for a biometrics appointment.
- Be contacted by USCIS for any additional information required.
- Eventually receive a decision on your application approval or denial.
Important Note: There is no fee waiver available for Form I-131F.
