Fake immigration consultant targeted students online
We have previously blogged about a fake immigration consultant who took money from a group of students from China, promising to sort out their visa overstay issues. The immigration consultant didn’t do anything at all, that is, until one of the students had no money left after giving the immigration consultant $18,000. The immigration consultant then called the RCMP on the student, who was arrested and faced deportation. All of the students were contacted by the fake immigration consultant online.
Immigration consultant resurfaces in Ontario
According to the Canada Border Services Agency, the same immigration consultant has reappeared online and is targeting people in Southern Ontario. The scammer claims they have an “in” with immigration officials and can help people in the country illegally with all of their visa problems for a huge fee.
To avoid being scammed by unethical immigration consultants or lawyers, newcomers to Canada should only deal with licensed immigration lawyers or consultants with a proven track record. As we have advised before, expertise due diligence and caution before signing the “dotted line”
