Immigrating to Calgary under the Skilled Worker Program
Calgary is quickly becoming one of the biggest economic hotspots and havens for new immigrants under the Federal Skilled Worker program.
Calgary, the largest city in Alberta, is the top oil-producing region of Canada and is expected to create 100,000 jobs during the next eight years – most of which will have to be filled by immigrants under the Federal Skilled Worker Program in occupations such as electricians, engineers and construction workers.
Engineers can also immigrate to Alberta using the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program, which can fast-track immigration for those applicants.
Many places in central-western Canada are not normally seen as havens for immigrants, but Calgary is quickly becoming a diverse city in Canada – approximately 25 percent of Calgary’s population is visible minorities, while the mayor of Calgary, Naheed Nenshi is a Muslim whose parents immigrated to Canada from Tanzania.
