Immigration Myths: Do I Need an Immigration Lawyer for Canada?
Here is an interview I did on American Public Media about the challenges for Americans immigrating to Canada and some of the myths people have about the process.
Myths About Immigration to Canada
One big myth American’s hold is that one can just pack up and relocate to Toronto for example they want. Unfortunatly nothing can be farther from the truth. Amercians, like everyone else, must qualify to immigrate or relocate to Canada. Not always easy as we have explained. Depending on the immigrant category, you may or may not be able to come.
Immigration Costs to Canada
Also discussed at the interview were the costs associated with immigration to Canada. Not cheap! Firstly there are government fees that have to be paid. They range in the thousands of dollars. Then there are lawyer fees. Beware about what you are getting before you put down any money to a lawyer.

But if you do find a good, honest and experienced immigration lawyer, it is usually worth the money because the immigration process is a bureaucratic maze and in order to maximize your changes of success, you should have a good lawyer by your side to help you though the process. A good immigration lawyer will tell you how much money, how long, and what your changes are for Canadian immigration.
Why You Should Consider an Immigration Lawyer
Lastly, not all cases get approved. You could put your best foot forward but still get refused. This can be devastating for people who have made the choice to move to Canada but later find out that their dreams are over. There is hope however. If you are refused immigration, there are appeal processes in place. If you file an appeal you have to do so on time. Again a lawyer in this case would be indespensible.
