Afghanistan Refugees to Canada

The Canadian Government has released a response to the situation in Afghanistan and provided some information to support those who need it. Currently, the Taliban has taken over and replaced the democratic government by force. Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, said that Canada has no plans to recognize the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan. Due to the Taliban being in control of Afghanistan, many of the people in Afghanistan are at risk of violence. Canada has created some pathways to help those in need in Afghanistan. Below you will find a table with information on how to contact the Canadian Government for help depending on your situation. If you’d like to discuss your specific case with a licensed immigration consultant, please call+1-647-362-5067.

Afghan Applications to Come to Canada

At this time Canada is prioritizing Family Reunification and Permanent Residents for Afghans.

Family Reunification

One of Canada’s main immigration pillars is family reunification. We find it important to keep families together, especially during times like this. Canada will be prioritizing applications to sponsor eligible immediate family members in Afghanistan. You can sponsor a family member in Afghanistan if you are a Canadian Citizen or Canadian Permanent Resident.

Permanent Residence

Canada will be prioritizing applications for permanent residence if:

Can Afghan Temporary Residents in Canada Stay?

We’ll prioritize your application if

Can Afghan Refugees Immigrate to Canada?

There is a special humanitarian program created that will focus on resettling Afghan nationals who are outside of Afghanistan and do not have a durable solution in a third country. Canada has announced that it will be accepting 20,000 vulnerable Afghan nationals to Canada. The people who qualify for this humanitarian program are:

You do not need to be in Afghanistan or return to Afghanistan to be eligible for this humanitarian program.

How Can Canadians Help Afghan Newcomers?

There are many ways that Canadians can help those Afghans who are going to arrive in Canada. There are several supportive social networks and organizations that are set up to help those settling in Canada.

Through these networks and organizations, refugees can

If you’d like to donate your time, items, or money to help those arriving in Canada you can contact the Canadian refugee resettlement agency that is providing support to Afghan refugees: afghaniresettlement@ccislive.ca

How to Sponsor an Afghan Refugee to Canada

You can sponsor an individual Afghan refugee to come to Canada by either working with a Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH) as a constituent group or through the Group of 5 programs. Currently, the SAH applications are closed.

Group of Five (G5)

The Group of Five (G5) sponsorship program requires five or more Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents to agree to sponsor a refugee living abroad. This would allow a group of Canadians to sponsor a refugee from Afghanistan to Canada.

G5s may only sponsor applicants who are recognized as refugees by either the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) or a foreign state. However, the principal applicant does not need to have refugee status. Having refugee status means that an authorized body has found that an individual meets its refugee definition. This authorized body can either be the UNHCR or the government of the country (i.e., foreign state) where the refugee is now living.

Travel Authorization for Afghan Citizens

The IRCC announced that the Taliban is supporting any Afghan citizens with travel authorizations to leave Afghanistan.

“Canada and its allies have received assurances from the Taliban that Afghan citizens with travel authorizations from other countries will be allowed to leave Afghanistan.”

I was frustrated after talking to several different immigration firms. Many just didn’t seem honest or upfront. However, a friend recommended VisaPlace to me, and I am glad they did. I worked with a lady and she was very knowledgeable and explained the process to me. She was so essential for the immigration process. I would definitely go back to her if i needed any further support.

I’d like to be clear that I’m somewhat of a skeptic, especially when it comes to investing time and money into a new venture. I’m originally from the UK but I made the decision to migrate to Canada after meeting my girlfriend online six months ago. I know the process is going to take time, but I wanted legal counsel to make sure I approach the process in the most efficient way possible – I HATE wasting time. My consultation over the phone was informative and eased some of my initial concerns about potential hiccups. The lawyer I worked with was good about getting back to me, although occasionally she couldn’t be reached due to being in court – that was fine, she typically followed up relatively quickly. I’m now well within the process of immigrating and I have appreciated having the legal support.

It was pretty easy to make an appointment with visaplace. I have seen some people complain about the pricing, which is odd because in comparison to other firms, their rates are relatively fair. They were also honest and upfront with the complexities of my case and gave me the option to decide whether or not I wanted to move forward. I did end up moving forward and things have been going according to what we discussed. I am relieved to know there are honest professionals out there who won’t over-promise you things they can’t deliver.

I had a bad experience with a previous firm so I was hesitant to reach out to another to get my wife into the country. But, I needed guidance. After a consultation with VisaPlace, I was put at ease. The process was smooth and they were usually quick to respond. If they couldn’t respond to me that day, they always followed up with me, which I appreciate.

UPDATE: I am choosing to update and not remove my original post so others will see that they do seem to care about the success of their clients cases.
After posting my initial review I was contacted by a senior consultant that took ownership of the lack of progress on my case on their end. I am updating because they are trying to make a difference and I have now been assigned a team that contacted me in one business day and gave me all of the paperwork I need to get started on for processing. At this point I am very satisfied and am hopeful my case gets resolved in a timely fashion and in a professional manner.

Initial Post: I had an appointment 2+ weeks ago and spoke with someone that was supposed to send a follow up email but have yet to hear back from her. She wanted to get my credit card info for payment but I had to wait for it to clear another payment. They are very irresponsible and not professional. Would not recommend.

I had a fantastic experience with Brenda! I was very anxious about my status for an upcoming trip to the U.S and Brenda managed to really ease my nerves. She gave exceptional customer service and she made my day. I truly had an incredible experience. I would recommend Brenda to anyone and everyone!
