British Columbia’s immigration program, BC PNP, has a special section called BC PNP Tech. This helps them find skilled workers for their growing tech industry. It started in 2017 as a test to see if it would work, and it did so well they kept it going for good in 2021. By bringing in more qualified people, BC PNP Tech helps build up B.C.’s pool of tech talent.
What Is British Columbia’s Tech Pilot Program?
The BC PNP Tech stream of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program is open to individuals eligible for the Skills Immigration or Express Entry BC stream. It issues invitations weekly to qualified registrants with a valid job offer in one of the 29 eligible occupations. The job offer must:
- be for at least one year
- have 120 days remaining at the time of application
- be full-time from an eligible employer
The program supports employers by providing an expedited pathway for internationally trained workers and international students with critical skills needed in BC’s technology sector.
How to Apply for BCPNP Tech Pilot: Application Process
After determining their category, candidates can register online for free and receive a registration score. The BC PNP conducts a weekly draw to invite the highest-scoring technology sector registrants to apply. Invited candidates have 30 days to submit a complete online application and pay a $700 government fee. Applications are processed on a priority basis, and if approved, the applicant receives a nomination for permanent residence. Nominees meeting the conditions receive a work permit support letter to work during the process.
