The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is launching a new pathway for law enforcement professionals seeking permanent residency in Canada. While the exact date is yet to be determined, applications are expected to open sometime this year.
This new pathway, under one of Canada’s 11 Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), aims to bolster Alberta’s police force by attracting skilled law enforcement professionals from abroad. It seeks to achieve two primary goals: addressing the province’s increasing crime rates and filling the gaps in police recruitment.
Alberta has seen a decrease in residents choosing law enforcement careers, making this new PNP stream crucial in supporting Alberta Police Services and maintaining public safety.
For 2024, the AAIP law enforcement pathway will offer 50 nomination slots for Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates. Additionally, this pathway is aligned with Express Entry, requiring interested candidates to meet all standard Express Entry criteria to be eligible for permanent residency in Canada.
AAIP Law Enforcement Pathway Eligibility
To qualify for the AAIP law enforcement pathway, candidates must have a valid job offer from an employer who is a member of the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police (AACP). They must also meet all standard Express Entry requirements for permanent residency.
Eligible occupations under this pathway include:
- Commissioned and non-commissioned police officers
- Professionals in related public protection services
- Police investigators and other investigative roles
- Various specialized law enforcement occupations
What Is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program?
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is an economic immigration program that empowers the Alberta government to nominate candidates for permanent residency. These nominees are individuals deemed well-equipped to contribute to the province’s economy and address its specific labor shortages and demographic requirements.
