The Rural Renewal Stream helps rural Alberta communities attract and keep newcomers. This approach is community-focused, supporting local economic needs and helping communities grow. It enables rural areas to bring in and keep foreign nationals for living, working, and settling.
Communities and employers can:
- Independently recruit foreign workers. If nominated, these workers may be able to work while awaiting a decision on their permanent residence application.
- Collaborate with an approved non-governmental organization, known as a Designated Referral Partner, to recruit and retain refugees through the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP). These partners help find skilled candidates abroad who meet the EMPP criteria and can be matched with local employers in rural Alberta communities.
