What Are the Requirements for AINP Self-Employed Farmer Stream?
To be eligible for this stream, you need to meet these basic requirements:
- Demonstrate farm management skills by providing:
- Financial records of your current farm business
- Proof of education, training, and work experience
- A business plan outlining your Alberta farming business
- Confirmation from a Canadian financial institution that they will finance your farming operations
- Have enough financial resources, including:
- Investing a minimum of CAD $500,000 of equity in an Alberta farming business
- Showing a net worth of at least CAD $500,000, or access to similar funds
Note: The $500,000 investment is the minimum required; more may be needed.
- Commit to investing in an Alberta farming business by:
- Outlining your investment plans in your business plan
- Aligning your investment with Alberta’s agricultural growth targets, which can increase your application’s priority
- Attend an in-person interview with a Government of Alberta representative to determine your eligibility under the AAIP.
Who Cannot Qualify for This Stream
If any of the following relates to you, you do not qualify to apply for the Self-Employed Farmer Stream:
- A refugee claimant
- Being removed or in the process of being removed from Canada
- Work as a caregiver in Canada
- Work as a Temporary Foreign Worker who is not living in Alberta
- Study in Canada as an international student doing internships or co-op work placements
