Immigration fraud tip line gaining criticism

Immigration fraud tip line for “problem they haven’t even demonstrated exists”

According to this article in the Montreal Gazette, a new government tip line that’s set up to allow people to report immigration fraud is garnering a lot of criticism.

Tip line was announced last week by Citizenship and Immigration Canada

The NDP immigration critic, Don Davies, was quoted as saying, “I think it’s not a well thought out idea and I think it’s a knee-jerk reaction to make conservatives look like they’re touch on a problem they haven’t even demonstrated exists.”

But according to Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister jason Kenney’s statement on the subject, the tip line is much needed to protect immigrants who come to the country legally and punish those who would take advantage of them, such as shady immigration consultants.

“This tool will help us crack down on anyone, including crooked consultants, who obtain Canadian citizenship fraudulently and tackle those who seek to demean and devalue Canadian citizenship,” said Minister Kenney. “Canadian citizenship is not for sale. Our government will apply the full strength of Canadian law to those who have obtained citizenship fraudulently.”

The issue is, according to the opposition, “There is a waiting list of 900,000 applications world wide. It’s taking 13 years to get grandparents here. I’ve got cases of people trying to get their spouses here that are waiting four, five and six years…serious problems with foreign credentials, the visa system is a mess and they want to tie up immigration officials’ time with chasing down anonymous phone calls?”

What do you think of the new immigration fraud tip line?

My experience with Visaplace has been excellent. I’ve received prompt and accurate assistance at a very fair price. Fadi and Mansi were knowledgeable, professional and extremely courteous. Immigration issues are not easy to deal with. Having VisaPlace behind you certainly makes the various processes so much easy to deal with.

Mansi was a helpful guide through the complex procedures involved in my application. I can’t imagine trying to get through the process alone. I highly recommend the services of VisaPlace to anyone needing help getting the proper documents to attend school in Canada

This firm is effective. The people who work here are knowledgeable and attentive. From the first consultation right up until my case was resolved, they made sure I knew what was happening. It’s not an exaggeration to say that without their help, I probably would not have gained entry into Canada.

Bansuri was very helpful in explaining the reason she was asking me certain questions about my upcoming appointment. She was polite, clear and persuasive – excellent qualities for someone who does her job, and really a great first impression for The visa Place. Thank you, Bansuri.

My interaction with Brenda was cordial and professional, she understood what I needed and made sure that I got all my questions answered. Dumb thing to say maybe but I felt her smile coming through the phone. Thank you Brenda!

Thank you for guiding us through this complicated process. Although the first part of our process with Visaplace we felt was slow, they turned it around. In the end we had a good experience with their attorney, she was determined to get it right and deserves to be commended.
