According to a new article published by the CBC, immigrants to Canada have a significant impact on Canada’s crime rates, in the sense of keeping them low.
Canada’s crime rate is currently at the lowest its been since the 1970s, while Canada’s immigration rate is at the highest it has ever been. Immigration and immigrants have several positive impacts on Canadian society in the sense of safety, security and low-crime rates, according to statistics by Statistics Canada and several different scientists working at universities across Canada. 
How Canadian Immigrants Keep Crime Rates Low
Reason 1: Canada’s multicultural society puts a bigger emphasis on making room for all kinds of different cultures and beliefs, ensuring that everyone’s rights are protected.
Reason 2: Recent immigrants to Canada have very strong family ties, put a high value on education as well as community involvement. According to Statistics Canada, it does not matter where in the world a recent immigrant is from.
Reason 3: The above factors discourage young people from engaging in crime and risky behaviour.
Crime rates tend to increase when these parts of someone’s cultural identity (family, education, work ethic, and community) break down. According to a study by a University of Toronto sociologist, crime rates among recent immigrants to Canada are actually among the lowest no matter where they are from. As a result, increased immigration has actually pushed down Canada’s crime rates.
