Obama Frustrated With Roadblocks to US Immigration Law Reform
At a speech in El Paso, Texas, near the United States-Mexican border, United States president Barack Obama seemed to be frustrated at the fact that the Republican party controls the House of Representatives, making it difficult to pass any new immigration laws. Obama said that the White House has not and will not abandon moving for immigration reform, but that it is difficult to get anything done because it is a complicated process that needs a “comprehensive” solution in order to get the 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States a shot at becoming legal.
United States needs immigrants : Obama
According to President Obama, “The United States will find it far more difficult to maintain its competitive edge if it excludes those who are able and willing to help us compete.”
He also said that no matter what is done about securing the Mexican-United States border, it won’t be enough to please everyone.
“They said we needed to triple the border patrol. But now they’re going to say we need to quadruple the border patrol. Or they’ll want a higher fence. Maybe they’ll say we need a moat. Maybe they’ll want alligators in the moat. They’ll never be satisfied. And I understand that. That’s politics.”
