What requirements do I have to meet to obtain a TN visa?

A TN visa is an attractive United States work visa option because it allows Canadian citizens to work in the United States legally. It can be applied for at the US-Canada border, meaning that you do not have to wait weeks or months for your application to be processed like you would have to with other visas. TN Work Visa

However, just because it has expedited processing and is considered to be a fast-track visa option does not mean that the TN visa is an easy work visa to obtain. You will have to ensure that you meet the requirements, of which there are many.

TN Visa requirements: Do you meet them?

Meeting the requirements is a very important component of obtaining a visa for anywhere, especially with a United States work visa. This is because if you apply improperly, a denial can have a negative effect on other applications.

The first requirement of this visa is that you are a Canadian citizen, or a Mexican citizen. Canadian permanent residents cannot apply for this visa, and you must have a valid Canadian passport that will not expire before your TN visa does.

You must also have a job offer for a job that is consistent with the TN visa list, which includes professional occupations.

Your job offer needs to be formatted in a specific way for a TN visa by your employer. You have to be able to demonstrate to immigration officials that you have the qualifications, licensing and education relevant to the job.

In addition, you need to be prepared to show immigration officials that you have every intention of leaving the United States at the end of your trip, with documentation that proves you have strong ties to Canada like a house or close family.

For the best results and greatest chances of success with your TN visa application, speak with a licensed immigration lawyer to review your supporting documents before you apply.
