When should I renew my PR Card?
Permanent residents of Canada who hold a permanent resident card, or PR card, must renew these cards every five years to be sure to always have a valid PR card. Without a valid PR card, permanent residents can run into problems like being unable to re-enter Canada after traveling abroad.
But when should you renew your permanent resident card? Previously, the rule used to be that permanent residents should renew their permanent resident card about two months before their card was set to expire. That is not really the case anymore.
Permanent resident card processing times
The estimated average processing times for permanent resident cards changes every week and are listed on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website.
For example, as of February 6th, 2013, it is taking about 89 calendar days for existing permanent residents to have their applications for initial cards, replacement cards and card renewals processed – meaning Citizenship and Immigration Canada is working on applications received up to December 3rd, 2012.
For new permanent residents, the processing times are usually much faster. Currently, it takes approximately 54 days to process a permanent resident card application for new permanent residents.
These processing times are only for applications that are ready to be processed and have no errors, omissions or other issues that can cause significant delays.

I had an amazing experience with this immigration firm! They helped me to obtain B2 Tourist Visa to U.S. I went for legal support as in the past I was denied of entry due to working without proper authorization. The process itself was smooth, stuff was very helpful along the way. Special thanks to Renee Thompson who handle it and explained and guided through the process and helped to prepare for the interview. Would definitely recommend to anyone !!
