3 Myths About Immigration Law Firms

Immigration Law Firms

 Immigration Law Firms

Like many professional services, there are always companies with poor reputations that make you think twice about the industry as a whole. Immigration law firms are not immune to this, and as a result there have been many myths and misconceptions appearing from time to time.

Below, we’re going to highlight three of the biggest ones and show you why they’re wrong.

1. Immigration Law Firms Are Only Interested in Your Money

Most reputable immigration law firms will genuinely care about giving you the best possible service at a fair price – otherwise, they’d lose their reputation pretty quickly!

It is important to work with someone who has proper knowledge and training. You can:

  • Ask about their experience with the Canadian immigration process
  • Ask for references
  • Speak to their clientele
  • Find out if they belong to professional associations in Canada

2. You Don’t Need an Immigration Lawyer

It’s true that there is no legal requirement to hire an immigration lawyer, but they are certainly very beneficial. According to the Government of Canada: “You do not need to hire an immigration lawyer. It is up to you. Using one will not get your application special attention or guarantee it will be approved.”

However, a reputable immigration law firm will advise you and help you every step of the way. They will ensure you meet every deadline and will make it their responsibility to give you every chance of success. If you’re unsure of the often complicated legal procedures involved with immigrating to Canada, it’s wise to have a helping hand to guide you through the process. Otherwise, you run the risk of your application being turned down.

3. They Don’t Make a Difference

Immigration law is extremely complex, and there are so many aspects to each individual case that often requires professional assistance.

According to Michael Niren, immigration lawyer and founder of visaplace.com “Trying to explain the proper role of a lawyer in immigration matters is not easy. For some reason I can’t figure out, people have this perception that immigration applications are just about filling out some forms, paying a fee and sending them in. If it were only that simple!”

Michael continues: “We can vastly improve your chances of success. We can make sure that your file is treated properly by the authorities and if it isn’t, we will litigate if need be. Our role is to be your representative for your case. And remember, it is the government who pays an immigration officer to decide the outcome of your case, not you, not me.”
