Fraudulent immigration consultant targets illegal immigrants

Fraudulent immigration consultant arrested, faces charges

A fraudulent immigration consultant based in Brampton has been arrested after posing as an officer with the Canada Border Services Agency.

According to this Vancouverite article, the fraudulent immigration consultant met with a number of people living in Canada illegally and told them he could give them legal status in Canada for a fee ranging from $1,800 and $3,900. If they did not pay the fee, he threatened them with deportation from Canada.

The man is charged with several counts of fraud, as well as impersonating a peace officer.

Avoiding fraudulent immigration consultants

There are options for those living in Canada illegally, but there are no “quick fixes”. If someone offers you legal status in Canada simply for a fee, they are likely fraudulent. If you ever find yourself in this situation, contact a licensed and reputable immigration lawyer right way – it’s the easiest way to avoid getting mixed up with a fraudulent immigration consultant.
