More human rights groups speak out against Bill C-31

Justice for Refugees and Immigrants Coalition speaks out against Bill C-31

Last week we blogged about Human Rights Watch and their open letter to Canadian MPs about the new Protecting Canada’s Immigration System Act, Bill C-31.

The law is set to come into effect this summer.

According to this article in the Vancouver Sun, the Justice for Refugees and Immigrants Coalition has also spoken out against the bill. The Justice for Refugees and Immigrants Coalition is an organization that has members from a variety of other organizations including the Canadian Council for Refugees, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and Amnesty International.

On March 27th, they held a press conference to confirm their stance on Bill C-31, saying it removes refugee’s rights and is in contravention of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

“C-31 is a bill that violates the Charter of Rights, international law and common sense as well,” they said at the press conference. “We believe it is necessary to reform Canada’s refugee system, but it is important to do it in a way that has features that are fast, fair and effective. None of these features are contained in Bill C-31.”

Spectacular experience. Completely smooth process, they were able to answer any of my questions any time and I had peace of mind throughout the application time, which was invaluable. I have recommended them to other friends looking for assistance with their applications, and will continue to do so. Worth every penny.

Great law firm with great staff. My lawyer Rania did a great job for my Canadian work permit and my daughters study permit. You are great in your work. And my Para Legal officer Alicea, you are just amazing. They did not rest until my job was promptly and properly done. Always there to answer my calls, reply my emails promptly. She tried her best and the results were amazing. I recommend visa place if you need the best immigration job. Many thanks to Rania and Alicea.
