Over 3,000 Canadian Citizenships to be Revoked
Canadian Government Orders Canadian Citizenships Revoked
According to this CBC News article, the Canadian government has ordered the removal of 3,100 Canadian Citizenships after investigating over 11,000 different cases. While the process of removing citizenship can take months or years, 19 people have had their Canadian Citizenship revoked so far.
According to Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney, “Canadian Citizenship is not for sale. We are taking action to strip citizenship and permanent residence status from people who don’t play by the rules and who lie or cheat to become a Canadian citizen.”
About 500 letters have been sent out so far to the over 3,000 people.
Permanent Residents also in trouble
About 5,000 people with permanent resident status have been flagged, but most of them are not believed to actually be in Canada at the moment. If they try to enter Canada or apply for Canadian Citizenship, they could experience difficulties.
How is Canadian Citizenship obtained fraudulently?
There are many ways one can fraudulently obtain Canadian citizenship but the most common is paying a crooked immigration consultant to forge documents and help you create the “illusion” that you’ve been in Canada longer than you have or are living in Canada when you aren’t. Those who obtain citizenship through fraudulent means typically lie and say they’ve met their residency obligation (two out of every five years for a permanent resident and three out of the past four years as a permanent resident for citizenship).
Let this be a lesson: fraudulently obtaining Canadian Citizenship is no joke! If an immigration consultant offers to help you obtain citizenship fraudulently for a large sum of money, it is definitely not in your best interest. They will eventually be caught, as will most of their clients. And once your Canadian citizenship is revoked it can be very difficult to ever re-enter Canada.

I had an amazing experience with this immigration firm! They helped me to obtain B2 Tourist Visa to U.S. I went for legal support as in the past I was denied of entry due to working without proper authorization. The process itself was smooth, stuff was very helpful along the way. Special thanks to Renee Thompson who handle it and explained and guided through the process and helped to prepare for the interview. Would definitely recommend to anyone !!
