Canadian Immigrant Magazine’s Top 25 Canadian Immigrants Nominations Open

Do you know someone who deserves to win a Top 25 Canadian Immigrants award?

Nominations are now open for the 2011 Top 25 Canadian Immigrants, presented by Canadian Immigration Magazine. The Top 25 Canadian Immigrants can be cultural icons, community advocates or volunteers, entrepreneurs or other immigrants who have made a difference in their community.

Nominators must be a landed immigrant or Canadian citizen, and those who nominate do not have to personally know the nominee (for example, the nominee may be a celebrity) and the nominators must be over 18. Nominees must be over 14 years of age and permanently living in Canada for the majority of the time within the past 3 years. Their achievements can be either personal or professional and have impacted Canada in a positive way on a local or national level.

Nominations for Top 25 Canadian Immigrants close at the end of the month

Nominations close on January 28th, and a list of finalists will be posted on the Canadian Immigrant Magazine website by February 18th. Canada will then vote online to determine the winners, which are announced later this year.

The Top 25 Canadian Immigrants awards are held annually by the magazine. Past winners include former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, current Governor General of Canada Michaelle Jean, filmmaker Deepa Mehta, RCMP sergeant Baltej Singh Dhillon (who struggled for the right to wear his turban while serving Canadians on duty, unintentionally becoming an icon for multiculturalism in Canada), runner Donovan Bailey, singer Raffi and community activist Body Ngoy.
