I am in the States on a B1/B2 visa, I gave birth to my son here. Am I eligible to obtain a work permit, so i can work and live here to support my child. I’d rather have him raised in the USA than in my developing home country for his own good.

You may be able to adjust your status from your current B1/B2 status to a work permit. The type of work permit that you may be able to apply for will be dependent upon your specific qualifications. You will also need to find an employer who is willing to petition you under one of the various employment based petitions.

To determine which work visa you would qualify under and which would be best for you to apply for given your current situation, you should consult with a qualified immigration consultant.
