Start-Up Visa for entrepreneurs – come to Canada

Canada is touting their new Start-Up visa as a way for prospective immigrants to the United States to immigrate faster, better and obtain permanent residency – they just have to choose to immigrate to Canada instead. Start-Up Visa

“H1B problems? Pivot to Canada. New Start-Up Visa. Low Taxes” says a new billboard in California, put up by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The Start-Up visa is being introduced as an alternative to the H1B work visa, which is a work visa for people in specialty occupations who have special skills found nowhere else. The only issue is that applications for these visas are only introduced once per year, and there are a limited amount of them accepted. As a result, they tend to get snapped up pretty quickly.

In addition, applicants usually need to continuously renew their H1B work visa. Although permanent residence in the United States is an eventual possibility, the Start-Up visa offers it outright.

What is the Start-Up Visa in Canada?

The Start-Up Visa is a special visa for entrepreneurs who have a great business idea. The Start-Up visa applicants can then “pitch” their idea to investors that meet the requirements of the Canadian government, like on the television show Dragon’s Den. If their idea is accepted and the investors agree to invest their money in the idea, the applicant can obtain a Start-Up visa and permanent residency – which they can keep even if the business does not succeed.

This visa is expected to be extremely popular and is a great way for immigrant entrepreneurs to come to Canada and bring all of their skills and innovation to Canada. If you’re interested in applying for the Start-Up visa, please give us a call! We can help you.
