Canada, Australia, Brazil more pro-immigration
According to a recent international poll, Canada is among the countries who have the highest number of citizens that are pro-immigration, viewing immigration in a positive light. Canada, along with Brazil and Australia are the most pro-immigration countries, with 47 per cent of Brazilians feeling that immigration benefits their country, compared to 43 per cent of Canadians and 36 per cent of Australians who see immigration to their country as a positive thing.
Russia, United Kingdom less pro-immigration
Russia and the United Kingdom were at the bottom of the list, with 77 per cent and 71 per cent respectively saying that they felt they had too many immigrants. According to the poll, the country’s economic situation had an effect on people’s pro-immigration stance. For example, countries experiencing higher unemployment were less likely to be pro-immigration.
Some of these countries have lowered their immigration policies, when in fact immigration processes create jobs, and do not increase competition for them. In addition, these countries may find their reduced immigration policies have backfired as unemployment increases later on.
